Structural
Evaluation

Rick Miles at Abilene Christian Univ.

Structural analysis of building elements and systems is necessary to identify areas of high stress, and the need for strengthening or additional support, as appropriate. We routinely perform relative movement analysis to characterize the possible causes of distress such as decay, excessive loading or thermal and moisture shrinkage/expansion of materials – and provide solutions for the cause of distress.  We specialize in upgrading existing structures to meet current code or proposed loading requirements, including windstorm loading in hurricane regions.

Non destructive testing (NDT) is another key element in our assessment approach and we have successfully developed custom testing protocols for all types of structures.  NDT can offer a rapid and thorough evaluation without the adverse impact of destructive testing.  Our nondestructive and in-place testing capabilities include:

Reinforcement and anchor location

Corrosion testing

Moisture content and transmission

Infrared thermography

Concrete strength and carbonation

Movement monitoring

Ultrasonic testing

Metallography

Borescope

Half-cell potential
